Our family home in Al Haram, on a quiet street a five-minute walk from the Sphinx. Seven rooms, each with its own bathroom and terrace, a rooftop that looks straight at the pyramids, and breakfast cooked by my mother every morning. It is where every one of our tours begins and ends.

Why here

The pyramids lit for the sound and light show, seen from the rooftop at night
01

The rooftop

Breakfast faces the pyramids. At night the sound-and-light show plays on them while you sit under a blanket by the fire. Guests tell us it is the best seat in Giza, and it is free.

02

The family table

My mother cooks breakfast every morning: ful, taameya, fresh bread, eggs, white cheese, tomatoes and whatever is in season. Tea and coffee all day. Ask her for a cooking lesson and you will go home with the eggplant recipe everyone writes about.

The base for everything

Every tour on this site leaves from the front door. Rami, Rania and the team are here, so a change of plan is a conversation over tea, not a phone call to an office.

The rooms

Seven rooms, each with a bathroom and a terrace

Simple, clean and quiet, each named after a pyramid on its door. Air conditioning, a kitchenette, blackout curtains, towels with the house name on them. Swipe a card for more photos; prices are confirmed when you ask.

I don’t think I have ever met a guide as passionate about their trade and their country as Rami. I stayed at the Pyramids Temple Guest House for the rest of my stay and ate most meals with the family, sitting cross-legged on the floor the Bedouin way.

The view from the terrace is unbeatable. You watch the sound-and-light show on the pyramids from your chair.

The host family’s cooking was a highlight: homemade, especially the wonderful eggplants.

Rami arranged our guide, the airport transfer and a driver for the day. Everything just worked.
